A rare Georgian loncased clock byBenjamin Barlow of Ashton circa 1770 in the most superb flamed mahogany Chippendale quality case. The feet are original ogees, the backboard is original with an old label inside From the repairers /cleaners Camerrer Cuss. London..There is the typically shaped raised central panel to the plinth bordered by canted corners profusely decorated with chinese style blind fretting Above is brick stepping leading to the superb reeded columns terminating in gilt corintheum capitals that flank the wonderfully long well figured door ,with slender proportions and shaped top...Above is more blind fretting leading to the double Pagoda hood, which is flanked by more reeded columns and corintheum capitals..Above the hood are shaped metal panels profusely decorated with painted flowers, which lead to wonderful pierced filigree roses ,and small blind fret decoration, above which is the Pagoda hood ,which has ribbon type blind fret decoration. The huge movement is as was usual for this type of clock a Victorian replacement, and it has not worked for several years although the bells are sound and it all worked until it was put into storage some time ago.I would consider splitting the case and the movement, but will not consider any silly offers. This case has all of the very best details of the finest Northern comparison to the work of Thomas Chippendale....
